Pricing Has Been One of the Clearest Lessons in Our Journey
Earlier versions of Koffeeyap included a monthly membership and a higher one-time price. As we worked through the experience, we kept returning to a question: how easy is it for someone to understand what they are paying for?
A subscription introduces expectations about recurring payments and how often someone will receive a match. Those expectations need to be especially clear when the service depends on finding a suitable person and a workable time.
We decided to simplify the offer.
We moved to a $4 Koffeeyap with no subscription. The price covers arranging the introduction; café purchases are separate.
This change also reflects what we want the first step to feel like. Someone considering a coffee meetup already has questions about meeting a new person. Understanding the payment should be straightforward.
The decision became particularly relevant as we explored working with student and community groups. A participant may also need to budget for transportation and a drink. Our fee is part of that overall decision.
We are still learning how the new price affects participation. A lower price alone cannot create a good experience. Members still need thoughtful matching, clear plans, and reliable communication.
But the change gives us a simpler starting point: one clear price for a new introduction.
We want people to understand the offer, decide whether it works for them, and feel comfortable taking that first step.
