Why Our Edmonton Journey Is About More Than Opening Signups
Expanding into another city has pushed us to think carefully about what it takes to make Koffeeyap useful.
A city needs enough people in the matching pool to create practical introductions. Those people also need overlapping availability and locations they can reasonably reach.
Our Edmonton planning began with that challenge.
We set an early goal of building a pool of roughly 100 to 150 people before turning matching on. The aim was to give introductions a stronger foundation.
That number was a planning target, rather than a guarantee that every member would immediately find a suitable match. A pool needs variety, and the details within it matter.
We also began reaching out to independent cafés. A local café can help people discover Koffeeyap and provide a place for introductions to happen.
Working through Edmonton has taught us to think about expansion at the level of an individual meetup. Will two people be available? Can they reach the location? Is the plan clear enough for them to say yes?
Those questions help us understand where to focus our effort.
Our work in Calgary gives us experience to carry forward, while Edmonton requires its own local relationships and matching pool.
That is the journey we are working through: building enough participation and local support for people to have a useful experience when they join.
