How Community Conversations Opened a New Direction for Koffeeyap

As we reached out to community organizations, a new use for Koffeeyap began to take shape.

An organization can bring people into the same room and still have members who do not know each other personally. We began exploring whether curated one-to-one introductions could complement the gatherings those organizations already run.

Conversations with a church’s young adult community made this especially concrete. We discussed how coffee introductions could support connections between younger and older adults, including a possible mentorship format.

That opened up practical questions. Who wants to participate? What kind of connection are they looking for? How should we match them? What makes the introduction affordable and easy to arrange?

Those questions helped us see the platform’s potential within communities.

An initial coffee could give two members a chance to meet and decide whether they want to continue talking. In a mentorship setting, the first introduction would be the beginning of a possible relationship, rather than a promise of an ongoing mentoring arrangement.

This work is still developing. We are exploring how organizations can use Koffeeyap while keeping participation simple and the purpose of each introduction clear.

The direction feels closely connected to why we started. We wanted to help people begin a conversation that might otherwise be difficult to arrange.

Community partnerships give us another place to do that work, alongside people already trying to help their members connect.
