Koffeeyap started with a simple observation. Everyone is lonely, and every app trying to fix it still feels like dating. We wanted something smaller, warmer, more local. Coffee with a stranger who becomes a friend.

Why we built it

Loneliness isn't a personal failure. It's a design problem.

Most social products optimize for time on app, not quality of connection. Swipe culture trained us to judge people in milliseconds. Group chats turn scheduling a coffee into a three day thread. And platonic friendship keeps getting squeezed into products built for romance.

We built Koffeeyap because the best conversations we've ever had happened at corner tables in independent cafés. Unhurried. Unperformed. Over in about 45 minutes. That format already works. We just made it easier to show up.

What we believe

• Friendship isn't content. You shouldn't need a profile, a photo grid, or a witty bio to deserve company.
• Local beats global. We're not trying to be in 200 cities. We want to be genuinely good in Alberta — Calgary, Edmonton, and beyond.
• Humans match humans. Someone on our team reads your note and picks a person. Not an algorithm optimizing engagement.
• Third places matter. Independent coffee shops are where communities actually form. We partner with the ones worth lingering in.
• Safety is non negotiable. Identity review before matching, public cafés only, and a one-tap pass if it's not right.

We're a tiny team based in Calgary, building every match from coffee shops we've actually sat in — from Kensington corners to Whyte Ave mornings. This is a product for the province we live in, not a growth chart on a pitch deck.
